The FilMS

The Water of Life
The Water of Life begins where many modern whisky stories lead: Scotland. Traveling through the people, places, and traditions shaping Scotch whisky today, the film looks beyond familiar bottles and historic distilleries to explore a culture in motion. Distillers, makers, writers, and enthusiasts reveal how generations of tradition continue to coexist with experimentation and change. More than a film about how whisky is made, The Water of Life is about the people who have inherited its traditions—and the choices they make about what to preserve, what to challenge, and what to carry forward.

Independent Spirits
If Scotland gave whisky much of its mythology, Independent Spirits turns its attention to the fiercely individual makers building whiskey on their own terms. The film travels through the independent distilling world, where entrepreneurship, local identity, ingenuity, and no small amount of stubbornness are transforming the landscape. These are stories of people willing to take risks, create something from the ground up, and compete in an industry increasingly shaped by scale and consolidation. Independent Spirits celebrates the personalities behind the stills and the belief that independence itself can become an essential ingredient in what ends up in the bottle.

West of Tradition
West of Tradition pushes the journey farther—geographically and philosophically—to ask what happens when whisky leaves the places where its traditions were born. From the Pacific Northwest to cultures and landscapes much farther afield, the film follows makers and ideas crossing boundaries, adapting to new ingredients, climates, histories, and ways of seeing the world. Rather than asking whether whisky made outside its traditional homelands is authentic, West of Tradition asks a more interesting question: what can whisky become? It is a story about tradition not as a set of rules, but as a starting point—carried forward by people willing to respect where whisky came from while discovering where it can go next.
